About The Boondocker

A passion turned into a resource

The Boondocker was born from a simple idea: travelling in a recreational vehicle (RV) should mean freedom, not technical headaches. Between electrical systems, propane, plumbing, absorption refrigerators, and countless maintenance details, everyday RV life raises many questions. And reliable answers are often difficult to find.

The French counterpart of The Boondocker, Campeur Autonome, was launched in the fall of 2025. The site has pursued a clear goal: bringing together rigorous, verified, and accessible technical information for RVers in French. In just a few months, a community of more than 2,500 subscribers has formed around the project. That community is what gives it its true value.

What you’ll find here

Over the months, Campeur Autonome started to see beyond the language boundaries, and one conviction became clear along the way: the value of a technical resource isn’t measured by how many pages there are to read through. It’s measured by the ability to provide the right answer at the right time.

The Boondocker was born in July 2026. It is not in the same form and shape, though. We realized that we needed to do more to help RVers and campers out. It is especially valuable to provide a genuine reference corpus: in-depth, fact-checked technical articles on how RVs work, a glossary of more than 780 camping and RV terms explained clearly; and directories of campgrounds, dealers, and services to help plan every trip.

But we felt limited and wanted to do more…

The shift toward artificial intelligence

That’s where The Boondocker’s big turning point comes in. Rather than leaving you to dig through dozens of articles and manuals, we’ve developed an AI assistant able to answer your technical questions directly. What sets it apart: it draws on real manufacturer documentation and verified content, not generalities.

In practice, you’ll be able to ask a question naturally, in plain language, the way you would ask a knowledgeable friend—and get a precise answer backed by reliable sources. That means real time saved, on the road as much as at home.

This assistant keeps evolving. It learns, refines itself, and grows continuously, and every use directly helps improve it.

Our new focus

This shift marks a new direction for The Boondocker. The site is no longer just a library of articles: it’s becoming a smart platform centered on the assistant, where the content, the glossary, and the directories all feed into a single goal—giving you clear, reliable, instant answers.

Our ambition is to become the go-to RV resource for the AI era: a place where every camper, no matter their experience level, quickly finds what they need to travel with peace of mind.

Independence and rigor

The Boondocker is an independent project, designed and run by RV enthusiasts. That independence is a deliberate choice: it ensures that the information we provide is, first and foremost, useful to you, without compromise. Every piece of content is carefully checked, and the AI assistant is built to cite its sources rather than improvise.

On the road

The Boondocker is just getting started. Thanks for being part of the journey—and safe travels.
